"I'm Smart, Talented, and Unique, I Just Don't Show It."
Completed with colleague Craig Olzak, this paper was the culmination of a yearlong ethnographic research project at Albion Middle School. This program, called "Building Assets," paired us with middle school students whom we mentored in a close relationship, while also conducting an ethnographic study on how "boys will be boys." Our goal was to describe how and why boys at the school behave or misbehave because of their gender performance, and we hoped to outline how the school might change to better serve their male students.
