First of all, don't forget that Karl Rove needs to be fired in order to restore honor and integrity to the White House. If the standard for firing a top presidential advisor has been lowered so that a jury has to convict someone before they get fired -- then I nominate Robert Blake for Secretary of Health and Human Services. And Ken Lay for Secretary of Labor. No jury has ever found them guilty of a crime, so they're perfect.

Secondly, in a bold attempt to shift attention away from Rove and his fledgling second term agenda, Bush will announce in a moment that he's nominated white guy extraordinare John Roberts to the Supreme Court.

Most analysts agree that Roberts is a strict constructionist, a "bedrock" conservative. Read: staunchly anti-civil rights, anti-women's rights, anti-working people, anti-consumer's rights, pro-big business, pro-offshoring.

Most correspondents also agree that he's not a woman. Laura Bush must be upset.

More information on Roberts:

From NOW

He took some amazingly disgusting stands against civil rights in the 80's and 90's -- e.g. fighting to ensure that a 12 year old girl didn't win a civil suit against DC transit police after they arrested her for eating a french fry on the train.

See? I can make irrational and wide-sweeping statements about conservatives too. I guess since conservatives are "pro-family", that means all liberals must hate babies.

My asinine logical fallacies are better than your asinine logical fallacies.

Welcome, Tim, and thanks for your important comment.

I regret if the wording in my original post made it sound like I was saying that all bedrock conservatives have those characteristics. I meant to specifically charge John Roberts, Jr. with having those qualities. So this isn't an asinine logical fallacy, but an accurate description of this nominee. Allow me to be more specific.

Anti-civil rights: check the Slate story I cite above. Roberts worked to make it harder for minority voters to use the Voting Rights Act.

Anti-women's rights: check the NOW article I cite above. One example: Roberts wrote a brief that argued blocking access to women's clinics is protected free speech.

Anti-working people/pro-big business/pro offshoring/anti-consumer's rights: I consider these one and the same. Check this story for why big business is cheering tonight at the nomination of Roberts. Also this.

We'll be hearing a lot more about Roberts shortly, so let's continue this dialogue.

Oh, and Tim, I have no problem with people that are pro-family, anti-terrorism, anti-pornography, pro-morality, fiscally responsible, and anti-criminals.

Anyone with those characteristics should support a living wage for working families, be anti-Iraq war so our National Guard and first-response monies can be here to protect the homeland from terrorism, be pro-women's rights so that so that men learn about why mysogny in pornography is bad, not be a Republican because they tend to run up huge budget deficits, and be in favor of better education funding, homeless shelters, and after school programs to fight the root causes of crime.

I hope we can move past asinine logical fallicies, Tim. Thanks again for writing in.
