Oh, no. Here we go again.
A few days ago, the Israeli army killed several Palestinians in multiple incidents across the West Bank. Last night, the Israeli army pounded Gaza with airstrikes and artillery shells. And this morning, the unacceptable and deplorable response to these Israeli raids came in the form of a suicide bombing inside Israel which has tragically killed at least five Israelis.
As it should, this story is getting a lot of attention in the US media. Here are the front page headlines from the US newsmedia websites that we monitor.
CNN: Suicide bombing kills at least 5 in Israel
NYTimes: Bombing at Israeli Food Stand Kills Five
CBSNews: Bombing Shatters Calm In Israel
FOXNews: Israel Bombing (and the teaser describes the attack as a "homicide bombing")
MSNBC: Five dead in Israel suicide blast
ABCNews: Five Killed in Bombing at Israeli Market
All of the websites that we monitor have a headline on their front pages about this tragedy. Note that just a few days ago, when six Palestinians were killed inside of 24 hours, there was not a single headline about those tragic stories on the front page of any of the websites that we monitor.
Note that none of these headlines directly blame Palestinians for the suicide bombing, so all six count in our tally of this kind of headline, bringing the total to 9 since January.
Images:
From CNN:

Caption: "An Israeli ambulance races past pedestrians at the scene of Wednesday's bombing in Hadera."
From CBSNews:

Caption: "Image from Israeli TV of scene after bomb blast at Hadera (AP /APTN)"

Caption: "The scene in Hadera after the blast (AP /APTN)"
All of these count in our tally of images showing Israeli suffering or grieving as the result of Palestinian violence. The new total is nine.
There is also a map on CBS (and Fox) showing the location of the bombing. None of the other
news outlets have images from this story (yet).
This image, the top story image on MSNBC right now, doesn't technically count in our project because it doesn't appear on a story page but rather right on the front page of MSNBC.

Note that the image says "first attack since Aug. 28." This combined with the lack of coverage of Israeli attacks on Palestinians would have most Americans believe that this is the first time anyone has died in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict since August. But, as Important Readers know, sadly, the Israeli army has been killing Palestinians at a constant average of about one person per week since January. And yes, there have been non-suicide bombing attacks from Palestinians which have killed Israelis between August 28 and now. It seems that the US media has a disturbing fetish with suicide bombings.
We'll continue to update today as more images are expected to appear in stories with headlines on the front page of the websites that we monitor. And, sadly, we can also expect a harsh Israeli army response to this atrocity, with more casualties likely.
Full project details and tallies available here.
UPDATE: 6:34PM --
No change in headlines except at the NYTimes which currently has this on its front page --
NYTimes: Palestinian Suicide Bomber Kills 5 in an Israeli Town
This one will count in our tally of headlines that attribute Israeli deaths directly to Palestinians, bringing that total to 4.
New images published today:
On CNN, FoxNews, and CBS, a particularly gruesome photo:

CNN caption: "Covered bodies lie near the site of Wednesday's suicide bomb attack."
CBS caption: "Covered bodies lie on the ground at the site of a suicide bomb attack in the Israeli coastal city of Hadera. (AP)"
Fox caption: "Covered bodies lie at the site of a suicide bomb attack in Hadera."
From MSNBC:

Caption: "Israeli police inspectors and forensic personnel inspect the site of a bombing at a marketplace of Hadera, in the northern coastal region of Israel, on Wednesday."
From FOXNews and the NYTimes:

Fox Caption: "AP - Israeli police at the site of a suicide bomb attack in the Israeli city of Hadera."
NYTimes caption: "Oded Balilty/Associated Press - A Palestinian suicide bomber struck a food stand in Hadera, Israel."
From ABCNews:

caption: "Israeli medics evacuate the body of a victim at the site of a suicide bomb attack in the Israeli coastal city of Hadera, some 40 km (25miles) north of Tel Aviv, Wednesday Oct. 26, 2005. A Palestinian suicide bomber struck a food stand, killing four people, wounding at least 30 and leaving a path of destruction at an open air market, police and rescuers said. In a phone call to The Associated Press, the Islamic Jihad militant group claimed responsibility for the attack. (AP Photo/Oded Balilty)"
From NYTimes:

Caption: "Oded Balilty/Associated Press - A Palestinian suicide bomber killed at least five people at an outdoor market in Hadera, Israeli police said."
Each of these five terribly sad photos counts in our tally of images in the US internet media showing Israeli grieving and suffering as the result of Palestinian-instigated violence. Without counting the images that appear at multiple sources, that takes our total in this tally to 14.
See the project page for full details and up-to-date tallies.
