Michigan’s Board of Elections announced today that a recall petition drive, organized by right wing tax-cut cultists, submitted a bunch of apparently fake names and forged signatures. As a result, the Speaker of Michigan’s House of Representatives, Democrat Andy Dillon, will not face a special recall election in August.

Even though the right wing nutjobs have put us through a few terrible weeks on this, I hope we’ve all learned something from what Loser Leon Drolet and his cult-like collection of followers have done here.

Leon Drolet, a Grover Norquist worshiping anti-tax fiend, tried to make Andy Dillon into some kind of poster child for wasteful government spending. This ridiculous notion didn’t catch on in the Detroit-area district that Dillon represents, but that didn’t stop Drolet from claiming he had thousands upon thousands of angry voters sign on to his recall petitions. Turns out, Drolet got huge donations from rich people in Florida, so he could afford to pay people to finger through the phone book and forge signatures on fake petitions. I mean, the forgeries were so bad it’s not even funny. The Secretary of State caught all the fakes, and there are not enough actual, verified signatures to trigger the recall election. What a waste of time, money, and effort.

In this unmitigated failure, Leon Drolet and his groupies did their absolute worst to attack hardworking people in Michigan. Besides just trying to destroy Andy Dillon’s career, Drolet also had his minions blanket the internet with smears against honest, hardworking, heroic Americans like Ian Douglass. Why? Loser Leon saw that he was going to lose the stupid recall, so he figured it wouldn’t be a problem to insult random people as long as it brought some attention to his anti-tax evangelism.

Look. No one likes paying taxes. But no one wants to live in a dilapidated country where bridges collapse, where people go hungry, where children study in shoddy classrooms, where no one can afford basic transportation, and where hospitals close their doors to you unless you’re rich. We’re getting further and further toward living in that kind of a country, thanks to people like Leon Drolet and the ideologically bankrupt, radical right wing agenda that he and others like him have pushed for far too long. Enough is enough.

Thank you, Andy Dillon and Ian Douglass, for standing up to these insane right wing extremists, and for earning Michigan one of the highest 2008 ratings in government performance given by the independent Pew report. Michigan’s leaders are doing a lot to bring more jobs and prosperity to Michigan. While there are definitely times that Lansing deserves criticism, Dillon did not deserve this right wing snow job — and I’m happy that he’s won the day against a snake like Loser Leon Drolet. Andy Dillon, you are now an official recipient of the Stephen Colbert Hero Award. Keep making us proud, Andy.

Oh, by the way, Drolet isn’t even bothering to run for reelection to his position in Macomb County. Guess the writing is on the wall. Seems to me that Leon and his devotee Rose probably will get charged with election fraud and wind up spending a few months behind bars. Good riddance.
