So it was December 2002.  Along with a few friends, I decided to take off for Thailand, famed for its beautiful beaches, fantastic food, stupendous shopping, and general goodness.  I traveled first to Bangkok, the capital, for about 4 days, then went off to the beaches in the south of the country for a week.
